We are looking forward to our next sanctioned tournament this coming weekend as follows:

August 15th to 17th: Three day sanctioned tournament starting at 12:30 pm on Friday.

You may view tournament details on Pickleball Brackets by clicking here.

You should note that the venue for this indoor tournament is Raise Athletics in St. Albert at the following address:

Raise Athletics:   9 Richardson Drive, St. Albert

If you have any questions about the tournament please direct them to our Tournament Director, Ken Dentzien by clicking here.

If you are not participating as a player or volunteer, feel free to come out to support your Club and cheer on your fellow members!

Ball Machine

Exciting News!

As a service to our members, the Club has purchased a Ball Machine that can be used by members during the remainder of the outdoor season at the Alpine courts.  An e-mail will be going out to members shortly describing the process by which members may take advantage of this ball machine in their training.

In the meantime you may be asking - why use a pickleball machine?  Here are some examples:

  • This machine may allow you an opportunity to practice particular shots to improve your skills
  • You may need help learning to return serves deep, do resets or make those critical third or fifth shot drops - using the ball machine can assist you in this process
  • You can take advantage of our optional mentoring service when you rent our machine -- at no additional cost!

Stay tuned to learn more!

Alpine Washrooms

As noted in our last Newsletter, the Club is now paying for access to the lower level of the Alpine Clubhouse including the washrooms.  Members have responded very positively to this development.  In order to avoid daily garbage clean up by the City of St. Albert, the agreed upon arrangement is that no paper towels (only hand gel) are provided in these washrooms, which are only meant to be accessed by SAPC members during Club play sessions.  Members are asked to use available outside garbage facilities to dispose of feminine products and other materials which should not be left in these washrooms.  A special shout out to Judy Murray for all you do to keep the Alpine courts properly maintained (free of leaves and debris, etc.) including regular cleaning of the washrooms of the Club house to ensure everything is clean and in order - you are amazing and the members appreciate you so much!!!  Also, thanks goes out to our Alpine captains for their daily walk-throughs of the bathrooms after their play sessions.

Indoor Season School Play / Membership Changes

A change in the policy used at the City level to manage clubs’ eligibility for the use of St. Albert school gyms now requires SAPC to curtail non-resident use of SAPC school gyms.

To continue using St. Albert school gymnasiums for some SAPC play, SAPC will distinguish between St. Albert residents and non-residents in its membership levels, effective Oct 1 2025.

There is considerable benefit to taking out or renewing a 2026 membership by December 31, 2025, as there is a price increase in Adult memberships as of January 1, 2026. Please join or renew by December 31!

Please Note:

To implement the changes to our SAPC membership levels -

  • SAPC membership profiles will be frozen (locked) from September 28 to 30, meaning no membership record edits or new member sales will be possible in that conversion period.

  •  All existing "Adult" and "Youth" membership levels will be converted to   comparable "St. Albert Resident" and "Non-Resident" by September 30.

In keeping with past practice and to be consistent with Pickleball Canada membership sales, new SAPC membership sales and 2026 membership renewals will be available starting October 1, 2025. New memberships purchased on or after that date will be valid to the end of 2026.

Volunteering Interest and Opportunities

Mentoring

We need a volunteer to take over the task of finding mentors and assigning them to the mentoring sessions.  If you are interested, please contact Nicole Currie by clicking this link and she will provide information and training.

Membership Profiles

We would ask all members to update their profiles to document their current interest in volunteer roles for the Club.  It is only through the work of volunteers that our Club can operate, so we ask all members to take this seriously.  When we need volunteers in certain roles or capacities is this database of profile information that we look to first in order to recruit volunteers for those open positions.
