What is a Skills Based Rating Assessment?

This evaluation process has two parts. First, players are numerically scored on a predetermined number of physical skills such as forehand and backhand dinking, 3rd shot drops, serves and returns. These drills are followed by 3 to 4 games; the rating specialist observes these games and assesses the application of skills  practiced in the first part.

What is involved a Skills Based Rating Assessment?

These assessments are conducted over two sessions: a Prep session and an Evaluation session.

    • In the Prep session members practice the skills to be tested in the evaluation session, using both skill drills and games.
    • The Evaluation session follows a week later. In this session members complete the skills drills for a numerical value.  Then, for the 3.0 level, 3 to 4 games are played between the registrants. For the 3.5 level, 3 to 4 games are played between the registrants againse 2 SAPC control players already at the 3.5 level. After the games, registrants meet individually with the rater who will convey their results privately with some feedback regarding strengths and "need to improve" areas.

A copy of the rating sheet is sent to SAPC and SAPC updates the member's rating.

    How to Register

Email rating@pickleballstalbert.ca to have your name added the list of interested members.  As soon as there are enough names on the list, SAPC makes arrangements with YEG and rating specialists for available dates and court times. SAPC then emails interested members to match them up with available times.
